Kalonzo Hints At ODM Joining The United Opposition

Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at the possibility of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party joining the United Opposition in the build-up to the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Sunday, December 7, 2025, during the Sunday service at Christ Dominion Ministries in Kasarani, Nairobi, Kalonzo underscored the need for political parties to join forces ahead of the country’s upcoming general polls.

While hailing the role of Kipruto Arap Kirwa in the United Opposition as the chair of the outfit’s coalition-building exercise, Kalonzo said that he had seen the Orange party coming to the opposition in a big way.

He pointed out Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino as some of the progressive voices that would be helpful once ODM joins the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.

As a result, he explained the model that will be used to share elective political seats once the opposition forms a coalition that will be used to contest.

“We have Kipruto Arap Kirwa, who is one of us in the official opposition and the chair of our coalition-building exercise. And as we do this, we are looking at those models where DCP is strong in Kasarani, for example, and we think that Wiper is strong elsewhere, maybe in Roysambu, or maybe some other place, because it depends on the candidates we are going to get, and all of them are joining these political parties. We could decide to come up and sit back as an option to say, ‘Rather than have Wiper, DCP, DAP-K, Jubilee, and ODM,’ because I see ODM coming to us in a big way. We say that we get together and agree,” Kalonzo said.

He went ahead to note that once the ODM joins the opposition, Kenyans will have former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to thank for his effort.

He hailed Gachagua as a leader who doesn’t hold the goodies for himself.

“We have progressive voices like Senator Nairobi, Edwin Sifuna, and Babu Owino, member for Embakasi East. We are all going to get together, and when that happens, you will thank Riggy G because that is the kind of leadership we want, where you don’t hide things in the jacket. You have to place it on the table. We are going to put things on the table for Kenyans to know that the time for real change is now,” Kalonzo said.

This comes days after Kalonzo dismissed reports that his party had struck a secret deal to surrender all Nairobi seats to Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), calling the reports cheap propaganda meant to divide the Opposition.

Kalonzo spoke on Sunday, November 30, 2025, during a thanksgiving service in Machakos County, where he told worshippers that the rumours spreading on social media and in sections of the press were only meant to create tension between him and the former deputy president.

“Watu waache hii propaganda wanasema ati Wiper imeachia DCP viti vyote Nairobi, you know they have to try everything wagonganishe Kalonzo na Rigathi Gachagua, that will not happen,” he said.
