Jubilee Wing lead by Kanini Kega Gives Notice To Withdraw From Azimio

The Jubilee Party is seeking to withdraw as a member of the  Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

The break-away faction led by East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega in a statement on Tuesday said it had written to the Raila Odinga-led party in order to be removed from the Deed of Agreement binding it to the coalition.

“Pursuant to Articles 33.1.1 & 2 of the Party Constitution as read together with Article 22.1. of the Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition dated 12" March 2022 Jubilee Party hereby gives notice to withdraw from the Deed of Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition,” stated Kega.

The Secretary-General further underscored that it had already resolved to decamp from the opposition during the past National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that was held on Tuesday last week.

“National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Jubilee Party meeting of 6th June 2023 resolved to withdraw from the Deed of Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition,” read the statement.

The announcement by Kega comes even as the faction led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta has continued to slam Kega’s team saying they are illegitimate.

The party, in its official Twitter account, also took to dismissing the statement by Kega, reiterating that it was not planning to ditch Azimio.

"Jubilee Party is in Azimio to stay. We kindly request those who feel tired of this cause, to walk away quietly into a party where they will be more comfortable," JP wrote on Twitter.

Jubilee has been embroiled in leadership wrangles after Kega and his wing made leadership changes which saw Kenyatta ousted as party leader, Chege nominated as the acting party leader, and Kega replacing Kioni as Sec-Gen.
