Uasin Gishu Women Representative Gladys Shollei became the latest high-profile leader to openly declare intentions to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Sholei, while speaking at a function in Uasin Gishu County on Monday, September 23, boldly put the DP on notice, saying she was willing to spearhead the impeachment motion.
"I am putting you Rigathi Gachagua on notice. You are going to be impeached and I am going to be in charge of the impeachment," Sholei stated amid applause from the crowd.
Shollei further claimed she would personally ensure President Ruto is unscathed from the ongoing turmoil within the Kenya Kwanza regime.
Her comments only served to add fuel to an already fiery situation, with an overwhelming number of Ruto's allies applying pressure in an attempt to oust the embattled Gachagua.
On Monday, Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana said he filed a censure motion against Gachagua with the office of the Speaker of the Senate - something that was disputed by Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
Duale told off Mungatana on social media, saying any censure motion against the DP can only originate from the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, Gachagua finds himself in a precarious situation, with his relationship with President William Ruto reportedly at a breaking point.
His recent tell-all interview which was televised on Friday did little to help his cause, as he openly spoke on his fractured relationship with Ruto's allies, who allegedly froze him out of state functions.
Gachagua then boldly dared his superior to 'get his house in order' referring to Ruto's allies who have launched a series of unrelenting verbal attacks on him in recent weeks.
The DP remains confident that only Ruto has the power to show him the door.
“There is no motion of impeachment against the Deputy President that can find itself on the floor of the house unless the President gives a nod. Nobody else has the capacity to push for that motion apart from him,” he said on Friday.
