As fireworks lit over Upper Hill on Thursday night, Nairobi paused to mark a rare milestone, Britam Holdings’ 60th anniversary.
From the top of the 32-storey Britam Tower, fireworks lit up the Nairobi skyline, a dazzling tribute to a journey of resilience, innovation and excellence that began in 1965 and has since grown into a continental powerhouse.
With fanfare and vibrant elegance, Britam brought together the who's who of the capital, business leaders, policymakers, partners, and long-time clients to reflect on, admire, and celebrate a legacy built on trust, innovation, and growth, evolving from a small local office to 66 locations across Africa.
Britam closed off Hospital Road in Upper Hill for a retro theme party, Britam Retro Bash, transforming the area into a glittering open-air arena for the night’s festivities.
The retro themed party rolled back the years to the 60s,70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s with music matching the outpouring crowd that joined the party.
Under the tag ‘Mission Possible’ Britam celebrated its rising to one of the country’s most influential companies with over 6 million customers.
Staying true to its tradition of setting the pace, the one-of-a-kind celebration reflected Britam’s hallmark blend of class and humility that has it being recognised as a Top Employer Africa 2025.
The company earned this prestigious certification across its operations in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Mozambique, scoring an impressive 94.3 per cent overall for outstanding people practices, including diversity, inclusion, and employee well-being.
“Tonight let us be proud of what we have done. It is not just a celebration of the past, but a declaration of the future,” said Diane Korir, Director for Brand and Marketing.
Adding, “Here is to every customer, partner and friend that has made the last 60 years possible.”
The accolades that paint a picture of Britam’s last six decades are plentiful, including clinching the Life Insurance Company of the Year award at the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) Awards 18 times, most recently in 2024.
The group’s footprint today spans Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Mozambique, and Malawi and ventures into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking its next frontier of growth.
As of 2025, Britam’s assets under management have soared to Ksh225 billion, making it one of the largest in Kenya’s financial services landscape.
If the current momentum is any indicator, Britam’s next chapter looks even more promising, with insurance revenue growing 11 per cent this year and interest and dividend income rising 16 per cent to Ksh10.6 billion.

And everyone from the company’s top leadership believes that is possible. “In the next 60 years, Britain will only get better and stronger in safeguarding our dreams and those of other stakeholders as well as their aspirations,” remarked Britam CEO Tom Gitogo.
That message was echoed by the Brand and Marketing Director who tossed to an even brighter future for the company.
“Here is to the 60 years. Brighter, bolder and even more impactful,” asserted Diane Korir.
