In Nyeri county, as of September 11, over 600,000 Kenyan citizens who have reached the age of 70, including those with disabilities, have been included in the monthly stipend program as part of the country's social protection initiative.

This effort was discussed by Florence Bore, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, during a speech in the Bargurret area of Kieni constituency.

Bore mentioned that they have successfully counted 600,000 individuals out of their ultimate goal of 700,000 participants. These newly enrolled individuals will join the existing 1.2 million beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii Program.

Despite facing challenges related to slow registration, the Ministry expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.

Bore acknowledged that the sluggish pace is partially due to a shortage of staff, but she emphasized their collaboration with National Government Administration Officers to expedite the process.

Bore explained that they are closely cooperating with Ngao offices, applying a method similar to the one used for registering all farmers for fertilizer distribution to ensure that everyone eligible is included.

Furthermore, she assured the elderly that their stipends, amounting to Sh2,000, will be disbursed punctually, with payments scheduled for the 28th day of each month. They are also working with banks and agents to facilitate efficient payment methods.

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina pledged to gather resources to ensure that every eligible elderly person is registered in the program.
