Atletico Madrid Beat Union Saint-Gilloise 3-1

England international Conor Gallagher scored as Atletico Madrid comfortably beat Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League.

The former Chelsea midfielder was named among the substitutes by Diego Simeone but made an instant impact 10 minutes after he was introduced in the second half.

Gallagher pounced on a loose ball in the box to rifle beyond Kjell Scherpen in the Union net to make it 2-0.

But, before Gallagher's strike, former Manchester Beat City striker Julian Alvarez scored his second Champions League goal of the season to fire Atletico into the lead in the 39th minute.

The Belgian side briefly halved the deficit when former Accrington Stanley defender Ross Sykes headed beyond Jan Oblak with 10 minutes remaining.

But substitute Marcos Llorente wrapped up the three points for the Spaniards with a 96th-minute strike for his third goal in this year's competition.

With their second win in four matches Atletico have risen to 14th in the table, while Union sit in 26th place.
