AS Roma and Jose Mourinho part ways with immediate effect

Serie A side AS Roma have confirmed they have parted ways with their boss Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician leaves the club ninth on the league table, and his departure has been confirmed after the loss against AC Milan on Sunday at San Siro.

"AS Roma can confirm that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect. Mourinho was unveiled as the Giallorossi’s 60th coach in May 2021.

"He led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on May 25th, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season," AS Roma announced.

While confirming the exit of the Premier League and the Champions League-winning coach, the club's owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, said they will always remember Mourinho's stint with fond memories.

“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

"Further updates on the new First Team coaching staff will follow imminently,” Dan and Ryan Friedkin said.

The Giallorossi only have one win in six of their last Serie A games, and this left Mourinho's position as the coach utterly exposed. They were kicked out of the Coppa Italia by Lazio.
