Arsenal Mercilessly Dismantle Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate in Uefa Champions League

Arsenal defeat Madrid, advance to UCL semi-final.

Arsenal have advanced to the Champions League semi-final for the third time in club history with a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, winning 5-1 on aggregate.

Having won the first leg 3-0, Arsenal increased their advantage in the 65th minute with a lovely chipped goal from Bukayo Saka, but Madrid cancelled that strike just two minutes later as Vinicius Junior caught William Saliba napping. A goal in second-half stoppage time from Gabriel Martinelli put the result beyond any doubt.

In a frenetic first half, Saka saw a Panenka penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois while VAR intervened at the other end to deny Real Madrid a spot kick of their own.

The Arsenal players link arms and charge towards the away fans in celebration.

There are raucous scenes in the away end. They've just witnessed a famous night to rival Arsenal's victory here in 2006, which was part of a run that took them all the way to the Champions League final.

Real Madrid not good enough in this tournament

Whistles from the Madrid crowd at the end, or those who were left.

Arsenal by far the better team in both games. Ancelotti and his squad were just not up to the standard required in the Champions League this season.

Lost six games in the tournament, just never really got going.

Arsenal far superior across the two legs

Arsenal has been far superior in both games. Collectively and individually, in attack and defence. In everything.

A reality check for Real Madrid in a very irregular season.

And on 26 April, Barcelona await them in the final of the Copa del Rey...
