At least one person has died, while several others are nursing serious injuries after a bus they were travelling in got involved in an accident along Jogoo Road in Nairobi.
The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon after the speeding bus reportedly lost control, veered off the road and plunged into a ditch, killing one person on the spot.
According to witnesses, the accident, which occurred near Citam Buruburu church, happened while the bus was heading to Donholm from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
Reports further indicated that the deceased was the bus conductor who succumbed after sustaining critical injuries to the limbs and the head.
Videos and images obtained by TSM Digital showed residents gathered around the scene even as rescue efforts intensified to retrieve those trapped under the wreckage.
The extent of the accident is demonstrated by the bus's extensive damage, which includes broken windows, seats, and a broken windscreen.
While the exact number of those involved in the accident is yet to be established, those injured have since been rushed to various hospitals within Nairobi city.
Police officers arrived at the scene of the accident and cordoned off the area, with investigations currently underway to establish the main cause of the crash.
The latest crash adds to the number of road accidents witnessed across the country in the last three months. Just a week ago, several people sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle accident along the Nakuru-Kericho highway.

The accident, which occurred on Tuesday, September 2, took place after a speeding lorry lost control and rammed into an oncoming bus before crashing into other vehicles.
Besides the lorry and the bus, other vehicles that were also involved in the crash included a personal car and a trailer. The accident resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up along the road that lasted for up to two hours.
However, police officers who were on high alert quickly arrived at the scene and towed the wreckage from the accident scene to the station in Kericho.
