Kenyatta family thrown in morning after the death of William Maina Gakuo

The family of former President Uhuru Kenyatta is mourning the death of his brother-in-law, William Maina Gakuo.

"It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God's will that we announce the passing of William Gakuo," an obituary from a local daily dated Saturday, November 9, stated.

Gakuo is the brother of Uhuru's wife Margret Kenyatta.

He was the husband of Sheila Wanjiku Mwangi and uncle to the late Noni, Jomo and Achola, Lena and Bulisa, Ngina and Alex, and Muhoho and Chizi.

According to the obituary, the family of the former president will gather at the late Gakuo’s home in Karen on Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10, for funeral preparations.

"The service will be on Tuesday, November 12 at 10:00 am at the Hindu crematorium followed by cremation," the statement read in part.

By the time of this article's publication, the cause of his death was not yet made public.

Although Gakuo maintained a low profile, reports claimed that he was the link between former president Kenyatta and his wife Margaret Kenyatta.

It is alleged that Uhuru met Margaret through her brother Gakuo, leading to their long-lasting marriage. He was the only brother to Margaret, and the two shared an uncanny resemblance.

Gakuo and Uhuru attended the same school, St Mary's High School, and that is how he coincidentally met Margaret and their love stars started aligning.

"I first met her brother. We went to the same secondary school and quickly became friends and it was through him that I managed to meet his younger sister and we started a relationship that has lasted from high school until now. I am thankful to God for that," Uhuru stated in a past social media interactive session.

Through Gakuo's influence, Uhuru went ahead to marry his sister at the Holy Family Basilica in 1989.
