Digital content creator and actress Dorea Chege is pushing back against outdated societal expectations that glorify struggle—especially when it comes to motherhood.
Speaking out after receiving criticism for hiring a night nurse shortly after giving birth, Dorea reminded Kenyans that taking care of oneself as a mother is not a sign of weakness, but wisdom.
According to her, the old mentality that glorifies "breaking your back" to gain approval from society is long outdated.
Online critics—particularly older women with children—questioned when Dorea finds time to bond with her one-month-old daughter if someone else is caring for her at night. Many urged the new mum to consider the importance of nightly breastfeeding and being physically present during a baby’s early developmental stages.
In response to the backlash, Dorea calmly but firmly reminded netizens that she knows what’s best for her child.
“Things have been made easier for new mums and mums-to-be,” she said. “People were asking, ‘If you have a night nurse, when do you bond with your baby?’ I have the whole day for that. The night nurse comes from 8 PM to 6 AM. She takes care of the baby, and as a mum, I get to rest.”
Dorea explained that she spends quality time with her daughter during the day, allowing her to be more present and emotionally available, rather than overwhelmed and exhausted. She added that the night nurse brings the baby to her for breastfeeding when necessary, and once she’s done, the baby is returned to the nurse for care.

“There’s no medal or prize for suffering,” she emphasised. “If I’ve done it, you can too. Normalize luxury.”

She used her experience to encourage women who may be hesitant to have children—or more children—due to the exhaustion and pressure they see online. Dorea highlighted that times have changed and modern motherhood can, and should, include support systems that promote well-being for both mother and child.
“For now, I’m not expressing milk. I’m exclusively breastfeeding. When the baby cries at night, the nurse brings her, I breastfeed, and then I go back to rest. That’s baby girl treatment,” she added with a smile.
Dorea and her fiancé, DJ Dibul, welcomed their baby girl in the first week of March. Announcing her birth with a heartfelt post from her hospital bed, Dorea reflected on her emotional journey to motherhood.
“I fought for you, I prayed for you, I yearned for you. And now, holding you in my arms, I realise that all the sacrifices, all the struggles, were worth every single moment. Welcome to the world, our precious princess 👸💕”
The couple’s pregnancy journey has warmed hearts online, especially as they documented their anticipation and preparation for their daughter’s arrival. Dorea officially revealed her baby bump in January after months of online speculation.

She also opened up about discovering her pregnancy after two months due to having an irregular menstrual cycle.
Typically, a menstrual cycle ranges from 21 to 35 days, with 28 days being the average. Irregular periods occur when the length or timing of cycles varies significantly—making it harder to detect ovulation or early pregnancy.
Despite the challenges, Dorea has embraced her new chapter with openness, self-awareness, and a message to fellow women: You deserve peace, rest, and support—without guilt.
