
Safaricom Says It Will Close Its Shops in 13 Towns on Thursday

Safaricom has announced that it will close several of its shops across the country on Thursday, October 9, to allow staff to attend an internal event.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 8, the company said the closure will affect multiple towns and regions, with operations expected to resume the following day.
"Please note that our Safaricom Shops in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Mombasa, Malindi, Diani, Machakos, Kitui, Thika, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Embu, Maua, Meru and Garissa will be closed on Thursday, 9th October 2025 for an internal staff event," the statement read.
Safaricom added that customers in the affected regions should expect early closures on Wednesday, as staff prepare for the activity.
"Additionally, the shops in the Mount Kenya, Coast, Eastern and North Eastern regions will begin closing earlier on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, starting from 11:30 AM, to facilitate preparations for the event," the statement added.
Despite the disruption, Safaricom assured customers that alternative customer service options would remain available throughout the closure.
"To ensure continued service during this period, we encourage you to use the following alternatives: Zuri Chatbot available on our digital platforms; Safaricom Contact Centre and Authorized Safaricom Dealer Outlets located near our retail shops," the statement concluded.

This comes months after Safaricom announced that it had surpassed 50 million customers across its mobile network in Kenya.
In a statement on Thursday, July 24, Safaricom said the milestone reflects the trust, loyalty, and partnership of Kenyans over the past two and a half decades.
The telecom also noted that the achievement is partly as a result of the company’s yearlong customer engagement drive, which started in 2024 and will culminate in its 25th anniversary celebrations in October 2025.
"We are honoured by the trust that over 50 million Kenyans have placed in us. This milestone reflects the deep connection we have built with Kenyans over the past two and a half decades, and as we approach our silver jubilee, we recommit ourselves to always being a force for good and creating what’s next for our customers," Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said.
Over the past year, the telco has accelerated its focus on customer engagement and experience, through initiatives such as Sambaza Furaha and M-PESA Sokoni.

Beyond Kenya, Safaricom has successfully expanded its operations to Ethiopia, where it has also recently achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 10 million customers as of July 2025.
According to Ndegwa, the company’s rapid growth in a new market underscores its vision to become Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company by 2030.
"Our journey has always been about putting customers first, and this achievement is a direct reflection of that dedication. Looking ahead, our next chapter will be about deepening the impact, personalizing customer experiences, and driving Kenya’s digital transformation agenda," he added.
