Sanlam Kenya Plc has unveiled Sanlam Akiba Plus, a tech-driven pension solution designed to boost retirement savings through a mobile-first, self-service platform.
The product aims to deepen insurance penetration and encourage consistent savings by offering online onboarding and flexible contributions for both individuals and employers.
Sanlam Life CEO Jacqueline Karasha said the innovation seeks to close Kenya’s pension gap by simplifying access to credible and affordable retirement plans.
“Our goal with Akiba Plus is to help Kenyans save consistently and retire with dignity,” Karasha said, adding that the firm is investing heavily in insurance technology and digital financial solutions.
Sanlam Kenya Group CEO Dr. Patrick Tumbo said the platform allows users to manage savings, investments, and workplace pension schemes from a single interface.

Akiba Plus integrates four pension products: a Personal Pension Plan, a Post-Retirement Medical Fund, an Employer Umbrella Plan, and an NSSF Tier II-compliant plan — all offering flexibility, tax efficiency, and a guaranteed minimum return of 5 percent.
The launch comes as Kenya’s insurance sector continues to post strong growth, with Q2 2025 life insurance premiums rising 17.7 percent to Sh110.4 billion, according to the Insurance Regulatory Authority.
