Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz has prayed for peace and unity as the country continues to grapple with unrest following the disputed 2025 general election.
In a hearty message shared on his Instagram stories, Diamond expressed hope that Tanzania would experience more peace, love, and progress after weeks of chaos.
“Inshaallah Mwenyezi Mungu atujaalie amani zaidi ya tuliyokuwa nayo mwanzo, atujaalie upendo zaidi, umoja, mshikamano, maendeleo na azilaze roho za waliotangulia mahala pema peponi. Amina,” Diamond stated.
His remarks came after he faced backlash online for remaining silent while the situation in the country worsened.
Violence
The violence began on October 29, 2025, elections, which were marred by allegations of voter suppression and the exclusion of key opposition leaders. Protests erupted in Dar es Salaam and quickly spread to other cities, with demonstrators demanding transparency and accountability. The government responded by deploying the military and police, enforcing curfews in major towns, and restricting internet access across the nation.
Reports from human rights groups and opposition figures indicate that hundreds of people may have died during clashes between protesters and security forces. Hospitals in several regions have treated scores of civilians injured by gunfire, while many others have been detained. The government has denied using excessive force and has not released an official death toll, insisting that security officers acted to restore order.

Public anger has also turned toward celebrities and influencers who had previously shown support for the ruling party. Many fans accused them of prioritising their careers over the suffering of ordinary citizens.
Diamond Platnumz has been one of the celebrities supporting President Samia Suluhu.
The situation in Tanzania remains tense, with opposition leaders, international organisations, and human rights bodies calling for independent investigations into the conduct of the elections and the reported abuses.
While some areas have returned to a fragile calm, there are still concerns about arrests, censorship, and ongoing internet restrictions.
