Digital content creator and emerging events host, Murugi Munyi, has revealed that despite her earlier plans, she and her family will not be taking an international vacation this year—and possibly not next year either.
The mother of three shared the update through a video on her Instagram stories, with the caption, "Why we changed our family vacay plans from an international destination to a local one..."
Murugi went on to explain that several ongoing personal projects had put a strain on their finances. "A few months ago, I remember asking you guys to recommend nice national destinations for a family vacation, and many of you suggested Malaysia. We were actually pretty much set on it, because last year we went to South Africa, and this year we wanted to do something bigger and better," she said.
"But, you know what? Zach and I sat down and realized we have two big ongoing projects... the family home we’re building, and the house I’m building for my mom. The reality is, international trips are expensive! So, we decided to sacrifice this year—maybe even two years—and go to a local destination where we can still spend time together, but save some money," she explained.
The mother also pointed out how demanding construction work can be, especially when working within a set timeline for multiple projects.
In another post, Murugi stressed that vacations, at their core, are about spending quality time with loved ones and relaxing, and that it doesn’t matter whether the experience is local or international.
"And if you’ve ever built anything, you know that every single shilling counts. Unless you have unlimited resources—which we don’t—we’re doing everything we can to move these projects forward as fast as possible. I really want my mom to be in her new home by the end of next year, and that can't happen if we're spending a lot of money on vacations."
She added, "Vacations are great, don’t get me wrong, they are fantastic. But we had to ask ourselves what we really wanted to achieve. What we want most right now is to finish these houses and move in as soon as possible."
Captioning the video, she wrote, "We are channeling most of our resources at the moment towards construction... so we can't be spending too much on a vacay. Also, as long as we are together and on holiday, we will have a great time!"
