Why Anita Nderu lifted the no TV ban on her daughter Kaya Raftery

Multi-faceted digital content creator and media personality Anita Nderu Raftery has shared some positive attributes brought about by her lifting the no TV for toddlers rule in her house.

According to the fashion icon, before welcoming her daughter Kaya, she'd planned her kid wouldn't have screen time till they were 7 years of age, but life had other plans in store for her.

At only 2 years old, her daughter already has multiple favourite cartoon characters and sings along to baby songs Anita had vowed wouldn't ever get airplay in her home.

Sharing a video of Kaya in a shark costume the former The Trend co-host shared her past thoughts shedding light on how hilariously different things turned out.

"I remember when the baby shark phase started, and I kept hearing that song everywhere and feeling so sorry for parents because they had to keep hearing it. Saying things like: 'Whoa! That can never be me, that song will never play in my house... If I ever have a child, my baby will watch TV for the first time at age 7," started off the mother of one.

The content creator added, "From when the baby is born, we will only read books or do non-electronic activities whenever our baby is up when they sleep is when we watch TV or be on our phones. If only I knew," accompanied by several laughing emojis.

Anita went on to reveal her mom and nanny were 'secretly' letting her daughter watch TV even though she was opposed to it. And in as much as she wanted to keep the ban, she started noticing the incredible effects being exposed to the kid's shows had on little Kaya.

"It's incredible the hold these shows have on kids! It's also incredible how much as an adult you can learn from watching these shows.

I recall when I found out my Mum & Nanny were allowing Kaya to watch TV and telling them they shouldn't, then I noticed that Kaya is trying to say the words more, sorry, milk, and eat both verbally and in sign language. When I asked where she learned sign language, it was Miss Rachel, after watching a couple of episodes I was so impressed... I lifted my TV ban.

We allow Ky TV/Screen time on weekends, occasional weekdays, flights, or if we need a quick distraction. It's just fascinating to see how repetition in song, actions, and words teaches us new things.

Then Kaya started school and her speech, skills, cognizance, empathy, and personality grew in the best of ways!" The media influencer shared in part.

Finishing up she wrote, "P.S. This is in no way to advocate for excessive screen time. I am just sharing my experience with the screen time we allow our daughter,"
