Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Kilifi County IEBC official, Aisha Abubakar, following a week-long manhunt.
In a statement on Monday, January 13, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects, Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari, and Bryan Templer Oyare, were apprehended following forensic investigations into the incident that occurred on January 5, 2025.
The chilling crime took place in the early hours of the morning when an unconfirmed number of attackers forced their way into Aisha's residence.
According to DCI, following the arrests, the three were found in possession of stolen items, including one of the phones belonging to Aisha's son.
"On the fateful morning, the deceased and her son were woken from their dead sleep by an unestablished number of home invaders, who forced entry into the abode by cutting the grills of the kitchen window.
"Armed with crude weapons, the assailants knocked the son out before stabbing the homeowner severally amidst desperate pleas not to take her dear life. As she bled her life out, the cold-blooded attackers made away with a number of valuables including two Samsung phones, an iPad, 65" TV set, a sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded," the DCI said.
Following the attack, Good Samaritans responded and rushed Aisha to Premier Hospital in Nyali where she was tragically declared dead on arrival.
DCI Kisauni, supported by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, launched an intensive investigation into the case.
"DCI Kisauni took over the investigation, backed up by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau hawkshaws.
"Today, a meticulous forensic analysis saw the three suspects arrested, in the course of which one of the stolen phones belonging to the deceased's son and other crucial exhibits were recovered," the DCI added.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
