Six Killed After Lorry Veers off Kericho-Kisumu Highway, Rams into Pedestrians and Boda Boda Riders

Six people died on the spot while four others sustained various degrees of injuries after they were hit by a lorry at Kipsitet trading centre along the Kericho-Kisumu highway on Tuesday night.

Sigowet/Soin Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Kisini said the lorry was heading towards Kisumu when its driver lost control and rammed into the pedestrians and boda boda riders at Kipsitet stage.

After losing control, the lorry, which was ferrying scrap metal, ran over most of the victims before crashing into some, killing six on the spot and injuring the others.

Police officers had a difficult time retrieving the bodies of the victims who the lorry had fallen on.

The injured were rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital, while the bodies were also moved to the same hospital mortuary.

The wreckage was towed to the Kipsitet police station.

Four others sustained injuries and were taken to the Kericho County hospital for medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the facility's morgue, awaiting post-mortem examination.

This comes a day after four people were injured in a road accident along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Makueni County.
