Senator Oburu will be deputized by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kipkemoi Kisang.

The Senate Standing Committee on Energy is tasked with considering all matters related to fossil fuels exploration, development, production, maintenance, and regulation of energy.

The committee was previously led by Nyeri Senator Wamatinga Wahome.

Members of the committee include; Danson Buya Mungatana, Mohamed Abass Sheikh, Boni Khalwale, Olekina Ledama, Ekomwa James Lomenen, and Edwin Sifuna.

This comes days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies were de-whipped from various lucrative Senate committees.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu was axed from the Senate Education Committee while Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa who was holding the position of Roads and Transport Committee chairperson was removed from the position.

Also removed from the committees are Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, and Lenku Seki of Kajiado.

The roles are set to be rewarded to allies of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in a move to cement the broad-based government political deal between Odinga and President William Ruto.
