Comedian Blessed Njugush recently opened up about the financial challenges he faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly after his initial live show left him with a substantial debt.
Reflecting on the Convo podcast, Njugush described 2020 as one of his toughest years after poor planning resulted in a significant financial setback for his TTNT show.
Following the TTNT show, Njugush found himself in a precarious situation, burdened with a staggering debt of Sh6 million that needed urgent repayment.
Unfortunately, pandemic restrictions on public gatherings prevented him from organizing additional events to settle the debt.
One creditor, who had extended a Sh400,000 loan, imposed a steep 30 percent interest rate, adding to the financial strain.
Njugush acknowledged the mistake of seeking a loan from a shylock and lamented the unfavourable terms.
Struggling to make ends meet, most of Njugush's earnings were allocated to servicing the loan's interest, and the comedian faced challenges amid a decline in income from YouTube during the lockdown.
Eventually, the shylock showed leniency, waiving the accumulated interest and allowing Njugush to focus on repaying the principal amount.
With a renewed strategy to monetise his online content, Njugush successfully cleared the outstanding debt.
On their YouTube page a few years ago, Njugush and Cele shared the story of how they got the inspiration for the show.
They said that it all began as a small idea that expanded to include more people in the entertainment industry.
The inaugural show took place on Valentine's Day in 2020 and was subsequently released on YouTube in August of the same year.
The first season marked the public debut of their son, Tugi, who now has his own YouTube channel with over 122K subscribers.
Expressing gratitude on Twitter at the time, Njugush noted, "It was only a dream."
