Kenyan singer Nadia Mukami has broken her silence following criticism that her hit song ‘Woza Woza’ promotes immorality, pushing back against what she describes as unfair double standards applied to female artistes.

Speaking in an Instagram video on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the award-winning musician said she had seen several videos circulating online, particularly from women sharing their opinions about the song.

Nadia acknowledged that not everyone would resonate with ‘Woza Woza’, noting that differing views are part of artistic expression.

“I have seen so many videos of women giving their opinions, especially Jackie Matubia, saying the song doesn’t speak to her, and I respect that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”

However, the singer took issue with remarks from one critic who claimed that “the bar is in hell” and questioned what Nadia was trying to encourage women to do through the song. 

According to Nadia, such criticism reflects long-standing double standards in the music industry.

“Tunakuwanga na double standards sana. When male artistes sing about bangi, pombe and all these things, they are called talented and perfect. But when Nadia shakes the table and sings about things that actually happen in real life, suddenly I’m corrupting society,” she complained.

Nadia expressed frustration at what she termed selective moral policing, arguing that female artistes are often judged more harshly for exploring bold or realistic themes in their music.

“Manashangaza sana. Tuachange pia kuweka standards zingine zenye ziko unfair to female artistes,” she added.

Despite the backlash, the African Popstar hitmaker remains unfazed. She thanked her fans for the overwhelming support, revealing that Woza Woza is currently trending at number one.

“I appreciate the support. The song is still trending at number one. Hata mseme nini, I’m going to continue making music,” she added.

The mother of two also highlighted her personal journey, describing it as a blessing to have two children back-to-back while still managing to remain active and successful in her music career.

“Tuwache kunionea. It’s a blessing to be a mother of two and still be able to make music,” she said.
