Jackie Matubia: My Ex-hubby insistence on I being a housewife caused divorce

Actress Jackie Matubia has opened up on the reasons that led to her divorce from her ex-husband Kennedy Njogu.
The mother of two says one of the major reasons that contributed to the breakdown of their marriage was the fact that her pilot ex-husband wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom, an idea that didn’t sit well with her.
Njogu’s idea was that Matubia should take care of their home and family, as he would provide her and their child with everything they needed.
“I was married to a man from whom I did not have to ask for anything (he always provided). But there was a flip side to it. This man wanted me to be a stay-at-home and my problem was that, ever since I was young I wasn’t one to stay at home without having something to do. I have always been out trying to do something for myself and now he is this man who wants me to be a housewife,” says Matubia.
While that would be good for most women, it wasn’t for her.
“Being a housewife is a good thing for most women, but not for people like us who are used to having our hassle. For someone like me who still has a vision and ambitions to achieve certain things, that is where the friction started,” she explains.
Matubia claims despite the friction, her ex-husband remained supportive until when they parted ways.
“Don’t get me wrong, my ex-husband was very supportive at the time. He had bought me a car, we lived in a nice house. He provided everything, including money to buy pads. I was not lacking anything, but there was this calling that I needed to just go and work instead of being a stay-at-home mom. I was not at peace with the feeling that I had put my life on pause for this person” She insists.
The actress also argues that marrying young was another factor that contributed to the breakdown of her marriage.
“We were both young then. We both got married at 23, I had my first daughter at 25. We were young, and that whole thing of juggling work being a mother, and being a wife also weighed on the marriage. We also didn’t have marriage mentors around us as we grew in our marriage,” the 34-year-old adds.
.The couple, who began their relationship in 2014, would eventually part ways in March 2019 after finalizing their divorce.
Before they decided to walk away, their marriage had been on and off for seven years.
“For seven years, I would pack up and leave, then come back, then one day I looked at myself in the mirror and asked myself, what makes Jackie happy? Chaos had become our life. Hardly a day went by without us fighting, and it became the norm in our lives.”
