I Want Drake to Speak at My Funeral - Kanye West

I Want Drake to Speak at My Funeral - Kanye West

If there’s one thing Kanye West and Drake have mastered, it’s keeping the internet entertained. From beefing over beats to dropping subliminal shots, their feud has played out like a reality show no one asked for, but everyone kept watching.

But in a surprising twist, Kanye seems ready to call a truce—and he’s doing it in the most Kanye way possible: by publicly asking Drake to speak at his funeral. Weird right? But that's just Ye on a random day.

Yep, you read that right. Ye hit X (formerly Twitter) with this emotional confession where he poured out his love for the Canadian rapper/singer highlighting in retrospect he had no actual beef with Dreezy and was merely just jealous.

“I SAW A VIDEO OF DRAKE WALKING THROUGH HIS HOUSE AND SHOWING HE HAD A LIBRARY OF RYHME BOOKS MAN I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN AND REMEMBERED THIS WHEN MY JEALOUSY OVERTOOK ME… I LOVE DRAKE IMA SAY THIS WHEN I DIE, I NEED YOU TO SPEAK AT ME FUNERAL.” The father of 4 dramatically wrote

So, what does this mean? A genuine apology? A publicity stunt? A future collab in the making?

Kanye and Drake’s relationship has been a rollercoaster, sometimes co-signing each other, other times dropping cryptic bars that have fans decoding lyrics like conspiracy theorists. But how did it all start?

2009-2010: The Bromance Era

• Drake comes onto the scene, and Kanye co-signs him, even directing his Best I Ever Had video.

• They both appear on Forever alongside Eminem and Lil Wayne—absolute GOAT status.

• Kanye produces Find Your Love for Drake, making it clear that he sees potential in the Toronto rapper.

At this point, things seemed great. Drake often cited Kanye as one of his biggest inspirations, and Kanye acknowledged Drake’s talent.

2011-2016: The Competitive Tension

This is where things start to shift. Drake was no longer the hungry newcomer he was now a serious competitor, and Kanye wasn’t entirely comfortable with that.

In 2011, Drake drops I’m On One with Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, rapping, “I’m just feeling like the throne is for the taking… watch me take it.” Fans took this as a shot at Kanye and Jay-Z, who had just released Watch the Throne.

• Drake keeps making comments that hint at wanting to surpass Kanye, saying in a 2013 interview that Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak influenced his sound but that he was now leading the new wave.

Drake took a subtle dig at Kanye in a 2014 Rolling Stone interview, saying that Kanye’s Yeezus had “some questionable bars.”

Kanye responded at a concert, sarcastically telling the crowd, “They sayin’ they better than me? I’m waiting for someone to prove it.” •

• Kanye starts showing signs of resentment, later admitting in interviews that he felt Drake was coming for his spot.

Despite the tension, they still worked together occasionally, like on Big Sean’s Blessings and Drake’s Pop Style (though Kanye’s verse was later removed). But behind the scenes, the animosity was growing. They kept their distance but threw occasional jabs at each other

2018: The Beef Explodes

If there’s a single moment where their feud truly ignited, it was 2018. Enter Pusha T.

• Kanye was working with Pusha T on his album Daytona and allegedly leaked information about Drake’s then-secret son to Pusha.

• Pusha T drops The Story of Adidon, a brutal diss track where he exposes Drake’s child and questions his character.

• Drake believes Kanye was behind the leak and feels betrayed, leading to one of the most heated rap beefs of the decade.

Drake later confirms in an interview that Kanye invited him to Wyoming under the pretence of working on music but instead gathered personal information about him. This event seemingly solidified their fallout.

2021: The Feud Hits a Peak

Things got even messier when both Kanye and Drake were preparing to drop their albums, Donda and Certified Lover Boy.

• Drake takes shots at Kanye on Betrayal, rapping about “Ye changing his release date just to mess with me.”

• Kanye responds in the pettiest way possible allegedly posting Drake’s Toronto address on Instagram before deleting it.

• Both release their albums within days of each other, with fans hyping the competition and spending months on end debating which one was better.

At this point, their feud was full-blown war, with each artist throwing subliminal shots in interviews, songs, and social media posts.

2021-Present: Fake Truces and Passive-Aggressive Subs

They publicly “squashed” their beef in late 2021, appearing together at the Free Larry Hoover concert. But fans weren’t entirely convinced.

• Drake later performed Circo Loco in 2022, where he threw more shots at Kanye.

• Kanye, being Kanye, continued his usual antics on social media, often flip-flopping between praising and dissing Drake.

And now, in 2025, Kanye is suddenly saying he was jealous and wants Drake to speak at his funeral. So, is this a genuine moment of reflection or just Ye being Ye?

Because let's all admit it, Ye admitting that “jealousy overtook” him is huge. Kanye doesn’t apologize often at least, not without adding a dramatic plot twist. This time, though, there’s no shade, no distractions, just a straight-up “I love Drake” moment. At the same time, keep in mind Drake has built an entire career on not forgetting.

This man still has bars aimed at exes from 2012. So, will he accept Kanye’s olive branch? Or is this just another chapter in their never-ending saga?

Fans had some interesting take on the subject with one noting that Drake was about to capitalize on the whole thing. “Drake is really gonna hit us with a ‘Ye was my brother, but I had to keep my distance’ bar on his next album.” The X user wrote.

While another shared, he felt it was a calculated move from Kanye, “Kanye apologizing now because he wants Drake on Vultures 2—I see the vision," the netizen penned.

One thing is clear: whether Drake responds or not, Kanye knows how to keep the world talking.
