Kenyans who wish to see wild animals and indulge in nature across different national parks will soon be able to actualise their dreams after the government announced free access to all national parks and museums on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Speaking at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) headquarters on Friday, December 8, 2023, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Tourism and Wildlife, Alfred Mutua noted that Kenyans would freely access all national parks during the country's 60th Jamhuri Day from 6 am to 6 pm.

The CS stated that the move comes as part of the government's way of commemorating the country's 60th year of independence.

He added that the initiative aligns with the collective pride of being Kenyan and the government's desire for everyone to relish the gifts of nature.

"Kenya boasts breathtaking landscapes, from vast savannahs to pristine beaches and majestic mountains, showcasing the country’s unparalleled beauty. Our rich flora and fauna stand as a testament to our national pride and conservation efforts, inviting visitors to revel in these natural wonders.

"In commemorating our 60th year of independence, the Government proudly announces free entry for Kenyan citizens to all national parks and museums on Jamhuri Day, December 12, 2023. This initiative aligns with our collective pride in being Kenyan and our desire for everyone to relish the gifts bestowed upon us by nature," the CS said.

Those who wish to visit their desired national parks have been encouraged to carry their proof of identification as part of the requirements.

"Please pack a picnic basket and gather your family to savour the treasures we’ve cherished and protected for your enjoyment. Should a facility reach full capacity, we kindly urge patience to allow departing visitors to create space for others. Compliance with our staff’s guidance at entry points and within the premises is greatly appreciated," CS Mutua said.

CS Mutua also called on county heads to consider similar waivers to enable all citizens to enjoy the country's heritage and enjoy together.

"I extend a call to Governors overseeing county governments managing national reserves to consider a similar waiver, enabling all Kenyan citizens to revel and enjoy in our shared heritage. Let’s unite in celebration and embrace this opportunity to enjoy as one," he added
