Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Njunguna Ndung'u has announced new charge rates for eCitizen transactions.
In a gazette notice dated December 14, 2023, CS Ndung'u stated the changes which take effect immediately will see a nominal administrative fee per transaction.
He also acknowledged that the eCitizen is integrated with the available electronic payment platforms in the country including mobile money, electronic bank payments, real-time gross settlements (RTGS), wallets, debit or credit cards and other payment channels.
"The platform shall be a framework through which citizens and all persons will be able to access and pay for Government services.
"The pro-rated charges will be applicable on all services unless otherwise waived by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning. The charges take effect immediately," the CS stated.
The charges go as follows:
Ksh 5 for every payment below Ksh199
Ksh 10 for every payment of between Ksh 200 and Ksh299.
Ksh 15 for every payment made between Ksh 300 and Ksh 499
Ksh 20 for every payment between Ksh 500 and Ksh 699.
Ksh 25 for every payment ranging between Ksh 700 and 999
Any payment above Ksh 1,000 will cost Ksh 50 whereas any US dollar will come at a charge of $1.
To view the list of services that can be made digitally, Kenyans have been advised to viti the eCitizen portal at www.eCitizen.go.ke.
