The Ministry of Sports has paid Ksh42 million to the national team, Harambee Stars, after their win against DR Congo on Sunday, August 3.
The money, disbursed on Monday, August 4, was distributed amongst 27 players and 15 members of the team's technical bench.
In a brief statement, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said a similar reward awaits the team should they win their next fixture against Angola on Thursday, August 7.
"President William Ruto has fulfilled his commitment to pay Ksh1 million each to all 27 Harambee Stars players and 15 members of the technical bench, a total of Ksh42 million, following the national team's 1-0 win over the DRC on Sunday.
"The Sports ministry disbursed the funds, and a similar reward awaits the team after Thursday’s game against Angola," he said.
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, ahead of the opening CHAN match, Ruto visited the Harambee Stars' training camp at the Pullman Hotel in Upper Hill where he announced a generous incentive package aimed at motivating the team.
He announced that each player will receive Ksh1 million for every match won and Ksh500,000 for a draw.
If the team progresses to the quarter-finals, they will earn a collective Ksh60 million.
Reaching the semi-finals will bring in Ksh70 million, and if the Harambee Stars win the championship, the team will be awarded a staggering Ksh600 million.
""I want us to make a deal. For every game you win, every player gets Ksh1 million. For every game you draw, every player gets Ksh500,000.
"We had agreed that the team would get Ksh200 million for making it to the finals. But I make it Ksh600 million if you make it to the finals. I have multiplied everything for everyone to play their part," he said.

Ruto urged fans to rally behind the team, calling on the nation to unite behind Harambee Stars in the same way they do for political parties.
"Kenyans, are you ready for the biggest football celebration in Africa? We are hosting Chan 2024. We've got passion, we've got the players, now we need the 12th man - you! Kuja na mbogi, ama niaje. Harambee Stars all the way," he stated.
