Family demands justice after the death of their 24-year-old daughter

A family from Ngong in Kajiado County is demanding answers from the police following the mysterious death of their daughter 11 days ago.

24-year-old Daisy Nyakeru Waweru tragically died after falling from the fourth floor of a building in Ngong town. Her family believes she was murdered.

Four suspects, including a military officer, were arrested but later released under unclear circumstances.

Daisy was laid to rest on Friday, in an emotional burial ceremony attended by family and friends at the Lang'ata Cemetery.

The grief was palpable as painful tears streamed down the faces of Daisy's parents and those present, mourning the tragic loss of their loved one.

The circumstances surrounding her untimely death remain shrouded in mystery.

In a heartbreaking moment, Daisy's mother, Susan Njeri Mungai, as she spread the final handful of soil over the grave vowed that the pursuit of justice and answers was only just beginning.

"Mimi nataka tu justice kwa mtoto wangu ata ingawa nimemzika," she said. (I just want justice for my child, even though I have buried her…)

Daisy's tragic death occurred on the night of July 31st when she fell from E Wings Apartments in Ngong.

At the time, she was in the company of four individuals—two men and two women—who were promptly arrested by the police for questioning. Among the men was a military officer stationed at Lang'ata Barracks.

"I received a call, and when I arrived, I found the body; the police came, took the body and the suspects, including the military officer," the caretaker Frank Okore stated.

On that fateful day, Daisy's mother recalls her daughter leaving home in high spirits, heading to an interview at a mall in Karen. Throughout the day, Daisy kept in touch.

"She left in good spirits…she has never shown any signs of bad thoughts," her mother added.

The family is now raising serious concerns about the investigation, questioning how the four suspects were released so quickly. They also allege that their statements were not taken by the authorities, instead being told to focus on burial preparations and record their statements later.

"There is something they are covering up, or he is covering for them, I don't know," she added.

The autopsy report indicates that Daisy died from multiple injuries to the head, chest, and abdomen, consistent with blunt force trauma from a fall.

Specimens, including urine samples, vaginal swabs, and blood, were collected for further analysis, but the findings are yet to be communicated to the family.
