Emotions ran high on Tuesday during the burial of 7 family members who died in the Salama accident along the Nairobi Mombasa highway.

The seven, Francis Macharia, 61, Irine Wangombe, 37, and their three children: Joyce Wairimu, Joyce Muthoni, 8, and Lemy Macharia, 12.
Esther Nyambura, 12, and Esther Wanjiru Macharia, were given an emotional send-off at Karirikania in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.

The survivors of the tragic accident, Shadrack Mbao, 40, Daniel Waciuri, 45, Samwell Macharia, 35, James Karanja and Samwel Macharia, 24, were also present at the funeral.

Six members of the family died on the spot in the accident on 1 April 2024, while Joyce Muthoni died on 7 April while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Water Cabinet Secretary Zach Njeru, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai, comedian Eric Omondi and a host of Nakuru MCA’s were also present to pay their last respects.
