Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has challenged this year’s Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) graduating class to seize any opportunities to work abroad as they venture into the job market.
Speaking during KMTC’s 93rd graduation ceremony at the Moi International Sports Complex in Nairobi on Thursday, Kindiki told graduates their training has been rigorous, largely focused on clinical and practical work over theoretical learning.
“This balanced approach ensures that you are not only market-ready but also competent, making you highly valued both locally and internationally,” he said.
“The government’s international labour mobility will serve as an additional opportunity to support graduands who would want to explore employment options abroad.”
Kindiki said the government is committed to creating jobs for the youth and praised KMTC for its role in the plan.
“I am informed that the college equips its students with the skills necessary to transition into local and international job markets. Programmes such as the National Council Licensure Examination Training for those seeking opportunities abroad, basic foreign language courses, and pre-departure training ensure our graduates are competitive globally,” the deputy president said.
“Take advantage of these opportunities where you can, and just like our athletes, become the new cohort of Kenyan ambassadors abroad, renowned and accomplished.”
Some 21,261 students graduated from the national medical college on Thursday.
Kenya has a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United Kingdom to see 20,000 nurses sent to the European country by 2025.
Last year, 76 Kenyan nurses left the country to work in the U.K.
