Statistics conducted by the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) last year indicated that at least four per cent of women confessed to having two or more sexual partners while 15 per cent of men have extramarital affairs.
The study also found that widows, widowers and divorcees were more likely to have more sexual partners, backing up that 6.9 per cent of women admitted to having more than two sexual partners.
The survey further indicated that 26.7 per cent of men who had more than two sexual partners in the past one year were either divorced, widowed or separated while the ones who told researchers that they were married stood at 13.8 per cent.
The survey further indicated that Murang’a County topped the percentages of cheating women with 11 per cent of women in the county confessing to having more than one partner. Narok led the male park with nearly 61 per cent of men having an affair outside marriage.
The study also revealed that those within the 20-24 age bracket had the highest percentage of 5.8 with more than two sexual partners followed by 15-20 and 30-39, while women in their forties had the least with 2.4 per cent.
Wealthier men with a high level of education took the lead. Reporting with a higher number of sexual partners as compared to poorer counterparts.
The latest comprehensive research conducted by Research & Insights Group indicates that infidelity looms large over the hearts of Kenyan couples, with a staggering 60 per cent of those in “serious” relationships and 34 per cent of married couples openly admitting to cheating at least once since the year began.
The research indicated that 30 per cent of Kenyan women confessed to having cheated with younger men, popularly referred to as Ben 10s, dubbed the female version of young, energetic, and exciting. 58 per cent of men and 42 per cent of women admitted to cheating on their partners at least once in a year.
The research further highlights that 5 per cent of respondents admitted to having three intimate partners at once.
