Carrefour Supermarket rolls out campaign to promote locally made products

Running until October 17, the campaign aims to showcase a variety of locally made products available both in-store and online, encouraging customers to support Kenya’s manufacturing sector by purchasing domestic goods.

This initiative follows the recognition of Carrefour’s operator, Majid Al Futtaim, by the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) as a supporter of the ‘Made in Kenya’ brand.

As a result, Carrefour will feature the ‘Made in Kenya’ mark on its private label products sourced locally, underscoring its commitment to promoting Kenyan manufacturing.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director for East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, expressed pride in this recognition and reaffirmed the company’s dedication to supporting local businesses.

“By featuring locally manufactured products, we aim to highlight the excellence of Kenyan craftsmanship and encourage customers to make purchases that support the local community,” Orcet said.

On her part, KEPROBA CEO Floice Mukabana commended Carrefour’s role in supporting local businesses.

“The ‘Made in Kenya’ mark allows customers to easily identify and support locally made products, fostering demand and growth,” she said.

She added that Carrefour’s adoption of this mark complements the government’s ‘Buy Kenya, Build Kenya’ initiative, encouraging Kenyans to purchase domestically produced goods.

Carrefour’s partnership with five local manufacturers has resulted in the production of over 48 stock keeping units (SKUs), including detergents and personal care products under Carrefour’s private label.

The company says the move aligns with growing consumer preferences for sustainable, locally sourced goods and underlines Carrefour’s contribution to the local economy.
