Broke Kisii Ward reps suspends house business indefinitely

Ward Reps at the Kisii County Assembly Wednesday voted to suspend house business until further notice.

The suspension of the House Business marks the begin of intense push by Ward Reps across the 47 counties for the quick disbursement of funds from the Exchequer .

Bokimonge Ward Rep Amos Onderi who moved the motion said the decision by the regional Ward Reps forms part of the resolutions reached during the National Congress of all County Assembly MCAs in Nairobi a fortnight ago.

The congress was held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre with the MCAs from the 47 devolved units agreeing to formally suspend their businesses after the elapse of 14 days.

"We don't even have money for development as we break ," stated Onderi.

He decried the current allocations as little adding that even then it was still not quickly forthcoming.

In the 2023/2024 fiscal years the County bosses had requested Sh 407 billion against the current Sh 385 the Senate had approved

The reduction constituted a significant threat of total development budget required in the counties.

"We question the wisdom of the decision that Counties receive a paltry Sh 385 b from the three trillion plus nation budgetary, how does this support devolution?" added Marani Ward Rep Denis Ombachi posed .

The Ward Reps cannot check the County executive in the absence of adequate funds .

" Thus we agreed to adjourn the House indefinitely for the purpose of undertaking other activities that are intended to support devolution ," he said

Ombachi described as pity the Sh 86000 they receive as pay.

"In a government that says it was for mama mboga it should be that we the MCAs that be funded properly through the Ward Kitty which we don't have," said Minority Whip Denis Ombachi.

The motion was supported by Bogeka MCA Richmond Manani.

Already eight months since elections there was no development project yet due to lack of moment he said .

" It is shameful for counties to continue to to suffer want of development due to the constant delays in funding from the national treasury. This is an outright attack on devolution," said Manani .

Deputy Speaker Jacob Bagaka presided the assembly seating .
