2023 Finance Bill proceeds to the Committee stage

The controversial 2023 Finance Bill has passed the second reading after 176 Members of Parliament voted Yes.
The second reading of the 2023 Finance Bill sailed through without any hitches after 176 of the 257 votes cast voted in favour of the Finance Bill Report.
The report was tabled by the chair of Finance and National Planning committee, Kimani Kuria. The committee made a few ammendments before presenting it to the parliament.
Ammendments that were made included in the bill were reduction of the 3% house levy to 1.5%, removal of the 5% on synthetic hairs, artificial nails and beauty products, 5% withholding tax on digital content creators and 7.5% income tax among others.
The bill will now move to the committee stage where the entire house will debate on the report dissecting each clause individually.
