Apostle James Ng'ang'a is a Kenyan pastor, televangelist, and musician, known as the founder and owner of Neno Evangelism in Nairobi.
Locally nicknamed the "Commander in Chief," Ng'ang'a is recognized for his fiery sermons and dramatic leadership style at Neno Evangelism Centre, which he founded in 1992.
Originally a street preacher in Mombasa, he grew his ministry to attract thousands of congregants across Kenya, establishing his headquarters in Nairobi.
Born in 1952 as the fifth child in a family of nine, which included seven boys and two girls, Ng'ang'a came from a poor background that prevented him from pursuing formal education, leading him to engage in criminal activities.
He frequently visited jail and often got caught, with his final year in prison being in 1992, contrary to his expected sentence. He noted that his time in jail changed his perspective on life.
Once caught with a firearm, he mentioned his skill at sneaking things in public. While in prison, he found support among fellow inmates.
Pastor Ng'ang'a got saved while in Shimo la Tewa prison, the same year he also underwent circumcision.
During a church service held in the facility, he was converted to Christianity and underwent a significant spiritual transformation.
After being born again in Christ, he confessed his mistakes to a female judge during his trial, which resulted in a reduced sentence.
Years after being released from prison, Pastor Ng'ang'a started street preaching in Mombasa, where he launched Neno Evangelism Church.
Over the years, the church grew, and he relocated its headquarters to Nairobi in 2005.
Despite facing various controversies surrounding his ministry, the Commander in Chief has made inspiring strides by expanding his church with multiple branches, organizing rallies, and attracting massive congregations.
Pastor Ng'ang'a is ranked among the richest people in Kenya. He owns one of the largest churches in the country, along with a car dealership, a five-star hotel, and several other businesses and properties.
