Tala Loan App reaches 10mn customers globally, disburses over Sh300bn in Kenya

Online financial platform Tala has announced that it has reached 10 million customers globally since its inception.

Of these, 3.5 million are from Kenya, where the company first launched in 2014.

Tala has also disbursed more than 300 billion Kenya shillings to its Kenyan users, underscoring its commitment to driving financial inclusion across the continent.

The company’s growth has been fueled by its unique approach to assessing creditworthiness using alternative data, a method that has unlocked access to credit for millions of people, particularly in markets where traditional financial services are limited.

Tala’s global credit disbursement has now topped nearly $6 billion (Sh775.5 billion), reflecting the wide-reaching impact of its services.

Shivani Siroya, founder and CEO of Tala, expressed her excitement at the milestone, stating, “We are thrilled to reach 10 million customers, and this milestone is a powerful reminder of why we exist.”

“We believe that financial access is a basic right, not a privilege, and we are deeply grateful to our customers for trusting us to unlock their financial potential.”

The company’s customer-centric approach, which includes innovative product offerings and strategic market expansions, has been key to its success.

Tala currently serves customers across East Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, with plans to expand further into new global markets in the years ahead.
