Peter Muteti's whereabouts still uknown 4 days after his abduction

The family of 22-year-old Peter Muteti, a social media influencer with a significant following on X, is appealing for help to locate him after he was allegedly abducted outside his apartment in Uthiru, Nairobi, on Saturday morning.

Muteti was reportedly bundled into a vehicle by four armed men, including one in police uniform, at around 9 a.m.

Witnesses said two armed men jumped out of a moving vehicle, registration number KCF 035M, forced Muteti into the car, and sped off.

His mobile phone was switched off shortly after the incident, and he has remained unreachable since.

Muteti’s girlfriend, Mary Wambui, who last saw him before he went for breakfast that morning, said he had been living in fear after receiving threatening messages on X.

The threats followed a post he made on Thursday afternoon featuring a picture of President William Ruto, which some might consider offensive. Muteti deleted the post later that day, fearing for his safety.

"Friday asubuhi there were suspicious men aliona, ikafanya hadi adelete that post juu alikuwa na uoga, so it is true alikuwa anathreateniwa," Wambui told reporters.

Family members say they reported the abduction to Kabete Police Station and have called on authorities to scrutinize CCTV footage from the apartment complex and nearby areas to identify those responsible.

Muteti’s cousin, Christine Kendi, appealed for transparency from the authorities, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Kenya Police to provide answers.

"We appeal to the DCI, to the Kenya Police. We understand that Peter has been vocal on Twitter; maybe he could have done wrong, but we believe there is a due process. He should not be hidden—he should be produced in court," said Kendi.

Muteti’s brother, Kelvin Njeru, raised concerns over the involvement of uniformed personnel in the abduction.

"The men who were inside the Prado had not masked their faces. They bundled him into the vehicle and sped off. Inside the car, there was an officer in uniform, but even after reporting the case to Kabete Police Station, they say they don’t know his whereabouts," said Njeru.

The family expressed frustration at the lack of cooperation from the apartment management and a nearby supermarket, where witnesses claimed the abduction occurred.

The incident has sparked outrage online, with Kenyans calling for Muteti's immediate and unconditional release.

The abduction has also raised fresh concerns about the increasing cases of enforced disappearances in the country.

Detectives from Kabete Police Station have taken over the case and launched investigations, but the family remains in the dark about Muteti’s fate.
