The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned the owners of two Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) recorded driving recklessly somewhere in Central Kenya.
In a post on X following the viral video, NTSA described the actions in the video as unacceptable.
“UPDATE: This is unacceptable. The owners of the PSVs have been summoned. We will take action,” the statement read.
In the video that has been circulating on social media for the better part of the morning, the two vehicles are captured swerving recklessly and overtaking in a blindspot at high speed.
Passengers are also observed recklessly hanging outside the vehicles’ windows as they cruised along the highway purported to be around Nyeri.
The concerned Kenyans who recorded the video also noted they were having trouble capturing the number plates due to the clouds of smoke billowing from the exhaust pipes.
After the video was shared on X, it triggered an uproar from Kenyans who called on the relevant authorities to intervene.
This also comes at a time when the country is prone to experiencing accidents along its major roads as Kenyans travel for holidays.
To curb similar occurrences this year, the NTSA is currently conducting nationwide road safety education and compliance checks.
Traffic police are also carrying out the necessary checks to reduce the rates of road crashes this holiday season.
However, the country is already experiencing its first road casualties of the Christmas holiday following a road accident that occurred over the weekend along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
In the accident that occurred at the Kinungi area, one person died and 30 were left injured when a bus ferrying passengers from Nairobi overturned on the highway.
