Azimio la Umoja coalition has announced that it has agreed with Kenya Kwanza coalition to form a 10-member committee to resolve issues facing the country.
In a press release posted on their twitter handle, Azimio stated that the committee will comprise five members from Azimio and the other five from the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
The talks will be led by ex-Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo.
"We, the leadership of Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition party, having consulted with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza under the facilitation of K.E Olusgun Obasanjo on the state of our nation, desirious of a democratic and peaceful resolution of issues that beset our nation," the statement reads in parts.
Azimio also confirmed that four members out of the ten members will be non-parliamentarians; two from each coalition
"We have therefore agreed with Kenya Kwanza to establish a committee of ten, composed of five members each from Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza," the statement added.
Earlier, Kenya Kwanza had called on the Azimio coalition to rejoin the bi-partisan talks to resolve their issues.
In a briefing held, Kenya Kwanza's committee co-chair George Murugara had urged the coalition to resume the talks instead of protesting.
“The issues affecting the country will not be solved through street protests but must be on a round table where affected and concerned persons can discuss, talk and agree or disagree after talking on how to resolve the issues affecting us,” Murugara stated at the time.
"It is the right time that the demonstrations have been called off and we continue to preach peace so that even if there are vigils and prayers that are going to take place, that must be conducted peacefully because Kenyans are actually founding upon what happened recently when the purported demonstrations were held,"he added.
