President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assented to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill to become the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023.

The Homosexuality Act 2023 has been termed the harshest Anti-LGBTQ Bill in the Africa.

The Bill imposes a death penalty for those found engaging in aggravated same sex activities, 20 years imprisonment for recruiting, promotion and funding of same sex acts among others.

The Act which was heavily supported by parliamentarians also features other penalties including; 14 years prison sentence for anyone attempting homosexuality, 10 years imprisonment for anyone convicted of attempted homosexuality, 10 years imprisonment for an owner of premises that promote homosexual behavior, children found guilty of homosexual activities will be imprisoned for a period of 3 years and media houses that publish and promote homosexual materials will be fined 10 billion and their license revoked for 10 years.

In a statement written by Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Anita Among, she urged the duty beares under the law to execute the mandate bestowed upon them in the Anti-Homosequal Act. 

Despite receiving threats from the United States and other donor communities to withdraw funding if the bill is passed, Uganda remained steadfast in their decision to make sure the bill is passed. 

The US has already revoked Anita Among's travel visa in a move to condemn the assent of the bill.

A statement from the United Nations Human Rights read" We are appalled that the draconian and discriminatory anti-gay bill is now law. It conflicts with the constitution and international treaties and requires urgent judicial review."

Many Ugandan and international human rights activists have taken to social media to condemn the new act terming it  barbaric and one that undermines humans rights.
