Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin have been ordered to personally appear before the High Court to explain the whereabouts of security analyst Mwenda Mbijiwe, who was allegedly abducted four years ago.
Justice Martin Muya directed the two senior security chiefs to present themselves in court on December 16, 2025, at 11am following claims that investigations into the disappearance have yielded no tangible results.
Mbijiwe’s family lawyer, Evans Ondieki, told the court that no credible explanation has been provided regarding the status of investigations into the alleged abduction.
He stated that Mbijiwe was arrested by police officers along Roysambu Road and has not been seen since. His fate, whether alive or dead, has remained unknown since.
The court further heard that the investigation report forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) does not clearly state what happened to Mbijiwe.

His mother emotionally told the court that she believes her son is being held incommunicado by the State. She said she has spent the last four years moving from one government office to another in search of answers, without success.
Appearing for the ODPP, prosecutor Zachary Omwenga told the court that his office intends to forward the file to a Magistrate’s court for the purpose of opening a formal inquiry.
However, he admitted that the report from the DCI does not indicate who abducted Mbijiwe.
The court was also informed that before his disappearance, Mbijiwe had expressed interest in vying for the Meru County gubernatorial seat. His lawyer alleged that the people believed to be holding him are powerful individuals in the country.
Justice Muya emphasized the seriousness of the matter, prompting the order for the physical appearance of the top police officials.
