Winnie Bwire's body arrives in Kenya for her burial

Winnie Bwire, beloved for her role as Dida on the TV show Sultana, tragically passed away in Istanbul, Turkey, where she was receiving treatment.

On Sunday, September 8, her body was brought back to Kenya aboard Ethiopian Airlines and was taken to Pandya Hospital Mortuary.

The arrival was a heart-wrenching moment, marked by overwhelming grief as her parents, who had accompanied her to Turkey, struggled to cope with their loss. Her mother, unable to contain her sorrow, was comforted by family and friends.

Bwire's family, along with fellow artists, gathered at the mortuary to pay their respects. They remembered her not only for her remarkable talent but also for her distinct sense of beauty.

As they made preparations for her final farewell, they also reflected on the challenges she faced in accessing cancer treatment.

Winnie Mataya, a fellow cancer survivor, passionately appealed to the government to make such treatment more affordable, underscoring the harsh reality for those without the means to afford essential care.

Winnie will be laid to rest in her ancestral home in Western Kenya, on a date yet to be announced.

Her family announced her death on Thursday, September 5, revealing that she had bravely fought Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), a type of cancer, for two long years.
