"We will issue directives regarding the cost of living next week", declares Raila Odinga

Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition supremo Raila Odinga on Friday announced that the opposition will issue a directive to supporters regarding the cost of living in the country next week.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman Philip Makabon'go in Rongo, Migori county, Raila noted that the opposition will present a comprehensive statement on the country's financial outlook.

He also noted that the opposition will review the proposed measures by the Kenya Kwanza administration regarding the situation and the positions to be taken.

"We are going to release a comprehensive statement of the financial outlook in this country and the proposed measures by the government and what positions should be taken. We will release that statement next week," Raila said.

He, at the same time, criticized the President William Ruto-led administration over its recent tirade with the Martha Koome-led judiciary.

In his statement regarding the matter, Raila noted that regardless of positions, everyone must be subject to the court and urged the judiciary to fulfil its mandated roles in accordance with the constitution and not be cowed by the executive. He further assured them of the opposition's support and affirmed that together with citizens they will defend them.

"Everybody must be subject to the court, we want to tell the magistrate not to be cowed. I want to assure them that we and millions of Kenyans have heard you and we will defend you. If it will take a one million march into Nairobi we will do it in defense of the constitution and the judiciary," Raila said.

Further, the former prime minister alleged that both Houses of Parliament are captives of the executive and stressed that many acts passed in parliament were results of the current regime's involvement in a move meant to claw back on the powers constitutionally handed to the county government.

"There is a team that is busy drafting amendments of various acts of parliament whose aim is to try to claw back on the powers that have been given to the county government constitutionally. So many of these acts have been drafted somewhere and because they have already taken parliament captive they are being passed in parliament without any amendments," Raila said.

"When you are in parliament, debate on a bill did not have any time limitation and you could talk on a bill for one hour, two hours..or a day so long as you don't repeat yourself nobody will stop you. These days they bring three bills to be passed in one afternoon. How can you discuss a bill in 3 minutes? They do that because they want to change this country and take us back to where we have come from through parliament," he added.
