Wajir: 35-year-old man arrested while siphoning fuel from a telco station

A 35-year-old suspected burglar is currently being detained at the Garissa Police Station for breaking into a resident telco company's facility and illegally siphoning fuel from the station.

Mukhtar Suleiman reportedly committed the offence in the wee hours of Friday morning alongside other unidentified persons, who managed to evade police arrest.

"Acting on intelligence received about the break-in at Halane area during the wee hours of Friday, August 2, 2024, the officers responded swiftly and caught the suspects pants down as they were siphoning diesel from the facility," the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement on X.

"However, the suspect's accomplices managed to slip away into the cover of darkness, leaving their comrade in crime to face the consequences."

Officers recovered three full 20-liter jerry cans, one half-full 20-liter jerry can of siphoned diesel, 14 empty 20-liter jerry cans, and a siphoning pipe at the scene.

Suleiman remains in custody at Wajir Police Station pending arraignment, as the search for his accomplices continue.
