Trade CS Moses Kuria under fire after claiming he is the 'acting president'

Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria was the subject of online reactions after claiming he is the 'acting President' in the absence of President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi while they are away on official travel.

Kuria, while speaking on Friday at the University of Eldoret, joked that he was holding the most powerful office in the land as all three have travelled out of the country.

At the conclusion of his speech, the outspoken CS asked the students if they wanted to send greetings to the trio.

He said: “Do you want me to greet the president, his deputy and Musalia Mudavadi? Sasa Rais ako Merikani, Riggy G ako Colombia, Musalia ako London, na mimi ndio nimekalia…asante.”

President Ruto is on an official visit to the United States his deputy is in Colombia while Mudavadi is in the United Kingdom.

Contrary to Kuria's allegations, even if the three leaders are out of the country, the law does not recognize the CS as the one in charge.

The Constitution recognizes the Speaker of the National Assembly as the one in charge followed by the Attorney General.

In the current administration Interior Cabinet Secretary, Prof Kithure Kindiki would also follow as the most powerful CS after Mudavadi.
