"They're not Romantic": Why Tiwa Savage dislikes Nigerian Men despite them being Charismatic and Generous

The queen of Afrobeats music from Nigeria, Tiwa Savage, has revealed one reason why she is not attracted to men from the country.
The ‘Somebody’s Son’ singer, speaking during a recent interview on Thoughts In A Culli, explained that Nigerian men are generous and irresistible, but do not know how to show affection to a woman.
She explained that the “lack of romance” is a key reason why she’s been avoiding getting into a relationship with a Nigerian man.
Her statement contradicts some confessions from many women, especially from Kenya, who have been quoted praising men from the West African nation for their prowess in showing and expressing affection.
According to Savage, she is not the kind of girl who are looking for money when it comes to the choice of men they want to fall in love with.
She insists that she has her own cash and in plenty and that the unique factor she considers when choosing a man to love is his level of showing romance – something she has struggled to find in Nigerian men.
“Nigerian men do have swag, but they are not really romantic when it comes down to it. They know how to swag and splash cash, but I am not looking for that,” she said.

Note that Tiwa Savage was previously married to a Nigerian man, Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun, in a marriage that lasted for five years from 2013 to 2018. The marriage produced a son, Jamal.
In December 2024, the singer opened up on the circumstances that led to their divorce, arguing that her ex-husband made her develop into a typical African bad girl.
The songstress explained that at the time, she was struggling with postpartum depression after giving birth to their son.
“It was an eye-opener for me, and it made me depressed for so long. It got me angry, then I became the ‘African Bad Girl’,” she added.
“I thought to myself that after doing everything right, I was still attacked. Then I started getting tattoos and wearing short skirts and a bikini. I was just wild.”
