The Great Trek to Westlands

Dem Wa Facebook was invited to lunch by a friend who said they were in Westlands. Excited to dine in a fancy area, she headed out with high hopes. But as she got closer, things didn't add up.

Her friend kept telling her to “walk a bit further,” even after she was already in the heart of Westlands. After a long walk, she realised she had walked all the way into Kangemi.

Instead of a chic restaurant, she found herself in a small ‘kibanda’ – (makeshift eatery made from iron sheets.) The place was packed with her fellow Luhya community members.

“People from Kangemi, please, if you are from Kangemi, just say you are from Kangemi. Stop this business of claiming you are from Westlands.”

Why the Fake Address?

Dem Wa Facebook believes this is all about appearances. She said people often use fake addresses to look more successful or to get a higher social status.

She insists there's no shame in being honest about where you live.

"There is nothing wrong with saying where you truly come from. If you are from Kangemi, own it proudly instead of pretending to be from Westlands.”

To wrap things up, the comedian jokingly told her viewers she was broadcasting “live from Lavington,” adding that the area comes with "peace of mind and a piece of money."
