The fate of Deputy Governor of Siaya, William Oduol now lies in the hands of the senators after the Senate ad-hoc committee upholded his impeachment.
The 11 member committee found Oduol guilty of gross violation of the constitution, gross misconduct and abuse of office by bullying junior officers and spreading misinformation.
Speaking during the committee proceedings Speaker of the Senate, Amason Kingi revealed" Should the charges facing Siaya deputy governor William Oduol be found not to have been substantiated, then the matter will rest and he will be off the hook. However if any of be deemed to have been substantiated, then a motion will be prepared through a supplementary order paper. Debate will ensure and Senate will proceed to vote. He will need 25 votes to survive, failure to which he will be the first DG to be removed from the office."
Office renovations totaling to 18 million and the 1.12 million seat that was presented before the ad hoc committee became prominent topics in the impeachment proceedings.
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka hinted at the possibility of recommending that investigative agencies take up the matter, which could lead procurement officers in hot soup.
Although witnesses said the procurement was above board as the tender was awarded to the lowest bidder, they painted a picture of working under immense pressure from the DG, alleging that he tried to influence their work.
Oduol distance himself by stating he was not involved in procurement issues hence he could not have known about the cost of the seat.
