Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has declared Azimio' anti-government protest set for today illegal.
The IG revealed that no notice was issued to the police giving the police a greem light to disperse any gatherings using legal means.
The Azimio coalition is expected to lead anti-government protest across the country similar to those held last week on Friday
The protest in Nairobi will be preceded by Azimio leaders led by Raila Odinga at Kamukunji grounds before marching to the CBD.
“Consequently and in the interest of national security, the National Police Service wishes to inform the public that in the absence of notifications by planners of any demonstrations as a legal prerequisite to enable police provide adequate security to demonstrations and the public, police have no other option but to take necessary measures to disperse all illegal demonstrations,” read a statement from Koome.
The protest are backed by yesterday's launch of tumechoka.com a citizen initiative to collect 15 million signatures.
The initiative seeks to remove President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua from office barely a year since they were sworn in.
