King of Ohangla music Prince Indah and Mugithi star Samidoh have once again joined forces to give their respective fans yet another masterpiece - this time, in cinematic form.
The two Benga superstars have now ventured into the film industry, with both playing the role of Executive Producers for the much-awaited local film dubbed 'Kienyeji.'
'Kienyeji' is a film that explores the issues of intermarriages in Kenya and subsequential roadblocks facing the subjects.
The two collaborators, who are also the biggest musical names in their respective regions, decided to use the film to pass awareness to their fans across the globe.
The film, which is set for release this weekend, also adopts a cultural, rich theme through an infusion of celebrated Kenyan vernacular genres - Ohangla/Ajawa and Mugithi.
It also features segments where the two musical dynamos star as themselves, playing to enthused crowds.
Popular actress Nyokabi Macharia, who famously featured in the special Netflix international episode of ‘Big Mouth’ Season 7, plays the starring role with Ywaya Xavier adding flavour to it all by acting as the main protagonist.
Speaking about the movie's production, Macharia expressed her excitement at the historic crossover between film and music, while also lauding the input of both Samidoh and Prince Indah.
"I loved how different my character was in this movie contrary to what I've played before, so I'm excited to watch what we created," she stated.
"The other exciting thing about this body of work is the crossover between film and music! Incorporating two of the biggest cultural phenomena in the music industry. The film celebrates the fusion of their highly cherished music together with a timeless love story!"
On his part, Ywaya Xavier is a celebrated Kenyan star whose credits includes starring roles in local blockbusters ‘40 Sticks,’ ‘Murder Camp’ and ‘Igiza.’
'Kienyeji' is set to premiere on June 8, 2024, at the KICC COMESA grounds in Nairobi.
This is not the first project Indah and Samidoh are partnering in - the two musicians famously collaborated on a hit song named 'Bado Nakupenda' in 2023.
