Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has scored a mean grade of E in the latest performance ranking by Infotrak. 

The survey, titled End of Year Poll December 2023, ranked the Kenya Kwanza government's performance in the year 2023, with the Deputy receiving a mean rating of 36 per cent. 

President William Ruto, on the other hand, scored a mean grade of D (47 per cent) while his Cabinet scored D (43 per cent).

National Assembly and the Senate also scored a mean grade D of 43 per cent and 42 per cent respectively. 

The opposition also received a mean grade of D (48 per cent) with the majority of Kenyans not satisfied with their work of providing oversight to the government. 

The Judiciary, the police, County Governments and County Assemblies also received a mean rating of 47 per cent, 45 per cent, 47 per cent and 45 per cent respectively.

Notably, none of the public offices received a rating higher than 48 per cent - indicating that the situation needs urgent attention.

"A stark 63 per cent of Kenyans paint a picture of a year gone wrong, labelling it 'bad' or 'terrible'. Only a glimmer of hope shines through the 11 per cent who found it 'good' or 'excellent' while 27 per cent resigned themselves to an average year."

Overall, 30 per cent of the respondents noted that the coming year would be better than 2023 while 21 per cent perceived 2024 to be worse than the current year. 

Out of the 30 per cent who expressed optimism, they expressed confidence that the economy would improve and the country would continue to witness development.

On the other hand, those who expressed pessimism projected that the economy would get worse, their business would incur losses and their finances would get worse. 

"The economy, the undeniable grim reaper of 2023, looms large. 77 per cent of optimists rest their hopes on its improvement, while 84 per cent of pessimists see it worsening. The specter of struggling businesses, strained finances, lost jobs and elusive employment chills the hearts of many Kenyans," Infotrak stated.
